Primer Sessions ALL skaters that are new to the Rec-n-Rollerderby MUST enroll in a Primer Session before enrolling in a Regular Session. The 2010 season will include one Primer Session with 8 practices over 4 weeks. Skaters must attend six of eight Primer Session practices to skate in the Regular Sessions. The Primer Session is aimed at training new and returning skaters in the skating basics needed to safely participate in the regular recreational league sessions.New skaters are strongly encouraged to practice basic skating skills before joining Rec-n-Rollerderby, such as starting and stopping, crossing-over on the corners, gliding on one skate at time, and skating at least 10 laps without stopping. Practices are at Playland Skate Center on Wednesdays from 4:30 to 6 pm & Sundays from 9 to 10:30 am. (ASA option dropped) The 2010 Primer Session is May 12 to June 6, 2010.
In 2010, the Rec-n-Rollerderby will have two Regular Sessions each 12 weeks in length and each with two official scrimmages. A brief, 2 practices, Refresher to review basic skating skills will be offerred on January 13 and 17, 2010.* Regular Session I will run from January 20 to April 11, 2010. The scrimmages will be on March 14 and April 11.* The Refresher and Regular Session I practices will be at Playland Skate Center (8822 McCann Drive) on Wednesdays from 4:30 to 6 pm and Sundays from 9 to 10:30 am.* Regular Session II will run from June 9 to August 29, 2010. The scrimmages will be on August 1 and August 29.* The Regular Session II practices will be at Playland Skate Center on Wednesdays from 5 to 6:30 pm and Sundays from 9 to 10:30 am.*
Two, four-week Scrimmage Sessions will be offered to skaters who skated in the preceding Regular Session. Scrimmage Session I will run from April 14 to May 9, 2010.* Scrimmage Session II will run from September 15 to October 10, 2010.*
Scrimmage Session practices will be at Playland Skate Center (8822 McCann Drive) on Wednesdays from 4:30 to 6 pm and Sundays from 9 to 10:30 am.*
All fees are due on or before the first day of each session. Skaters will not be allowed to skate in any session until their fees are paid in full. Enrollment in the WFTDA insurance program, which provides accidental and general liability coverage, through the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) is mandatory for each skater. The cost is $50 and coverage is effective until August 31, 2010. Scrimmage Session II skaters must pay the WFTDA insurance enrollment fee in addition to the session enrollment fee. The regular cost for the Primer Session is $70* The cost for Scrimmage Session II is $60* The cost for the Refresher practices is $12* The cost for each Regular Session is $125* Fees are payable by cash, check, or PayPal (plus PayPal transaction charge).
